Massage Description
Connective Tissue Massage
Muscles relax by lengthening the fascia of chronically shortened muscles, to increase range of motion and reduce pain. Moderate to deep pressure is used, with a light application of lotion in order to 'grip' the tissue.
Neuromuscular Massage
A form of deep tissue massage that works with trigger points associated with chronically contracted muscles. Slow movement with deep pressure is used to 'melt away' areas of pain and metabolic congestion.
Stretching &
Range of Motion Exercises
Range of Motion (ROM) exercises combined with passive and assisted stretching is used to preserve and increase the flexibility and mobility of the joints associated with the movements. Each joint has a 'normal' maximum ROM which can decrease over time with injury and muscle contraction.
Cervical traction and lumbar traction may also be employed to gently open the space between the vertebrae to reduce pressure on the discs that provide a buffer for the vertebrae and associated nerves. The space between vertebrae become compressed from routine activities such as sitting or from trauma such as a fall.
Spinal decompression will help reduce pressure on nerves and help decrease any pain associated with those nerves.
